Job Description

The Assistant Director of Security Communications (Dispatch Supervisor & Threat Assessment Coordinator) plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the safety and security of the college community. Stationed in the Dispatch Center, this position provides direct supervision, quality control, and operational oversight to the Dispatch Center and the on-duty dispatchers during normal college operating hours, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The Assistant Director ensures preparedness, operational efficiency, and strict adherence to established dispatch protocols while responding immediately to incidents and emergencies.


This position also manages the college?s violence prevention and threat management programs, including active coordination and monitoring of students, employees and individuals of concern and their activities, and assessing persons who may be a threat to others or themselves. This position also monitors, analyzes, and shares criminal intelligence information provided by supporting law enforcement agencies. The position must be a subject matter expert in threat assessment, case management, violence prevention, intervention techniques, current law, statutes, ordinances, regulations, practices, court decisions in workplace violence, and other applicable topics.
  1. Provide consistent, on-site supervision and support to the Dispatch Center to ensure operational efficiency and preparedness. 
  2. Oversee day-to-day communications operations, ensuring adherence to protocols, procedures, and quality standards.
  3. Respond promptly to incidents and emergencies, offering leadership, guidance, and real-time decision-making.
  4. Conduct regular quality control checks to ensure high performance and preparedness of dispatch operations.
  5. Collaborate with security services, emergency management, administration, and external agencies to address threats and ensure effective incident management.
  6. Assist in the development and implementation of communication and threat assessment procedures.
  7. Coach, mentor, train and certify dispatchers to foster continuous improvement.
  8. Assist with maintaining and updating communication security equipment and software.
  9. Assist in researching new security technologies and recommend updates as needed.
  10. Maintain Dispatch Standard Operating Procedures.

Associate Degree from an accredited institution in Criminal Justice or related field or five to ten years of related experience in the higher education environment

Preferred Qualifications:
?Bachelor?s Degree from an accredited institution or five to ten years of law enforcement or security experience
?Knowledge of all aspects of the higher education environment, including organizational structures, institutional policies, state and federal laws, regulations, policies, operations, and procedures
