PARK INTERPRETIVE SPECIALIST (SEASONAL) – BAY AREA DISTRICT / SAN FRANCISCO BAY SECTOR

This position works under the supervision of the State Park Peace Officer Supervisor I (Ranger or Lifeguard). The reporting location is Angel Island State Park.
Primary duties include presenting interpretive material to the public, leading tours of various sites, scheduling of tours for the United States Immigration Station (USIS), staffing the USIS entrance, acting as guide for school group tours, assisting with the Environmental Living Program, opening and closing museums, greeting visitors on public docks and other duties as required.
Angel Island State Park is a fantastic place to gain valuable experience in interpretation and education and offers opportunities to interpret areas of cultural and natural significance on the island. Affordable limited dormitory-style housing in historic buildings available. Transportation by ferry and the State Park boat at regularly scheduled times is free. For employees who live off-island, the ferry commute is a great way to start and end the day.
This position works as a crew member on State Park vessels as a deckhand. Pre-employment and random drug testing is a U.S. Coast Guard requirement. Time worked as a deckhand can count toward boat operator licensure. Training opportunities to improve knowledge, skills and abilities may be offered.
This is a uniformed position and the employee must abide by all applicable departmental uniform and grooming standards. Must be willing to weekends and holidays. This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible. Must meet education and experience requirements .
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.
The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to appointment.

Operating motor vehicles and functioning as a deck hand on State-owned vessels may also be part of the duties of this position.
This position is subject to pre-employment and random drug screening as required by the US Coast Guard.Candidates that believe they meet the Minimum qualifications based on a pattern of education from the classification description (specifications) must provide a copy of your degree/transcripts and/or license along with your application (STD. 678) to be considered for this position.
