Job Summary:

Under the direction of the QA Manager the QA Lead is responsible for the management and technical leadership of the Quality Inspectors and department

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, train and cross train quality inspectors to help prioritize and balance daily workloads.
  • Complete and participate inadministering annual performance appraisals to quality inspectors.
  • Interface with various company departments to help manage their quality needs.
  • Create NC/DMR reports for rejected material as required, work with Quality Manager to facilitate completion of this documentation including performing root cause analysis.
  • Attend production meetings and speak to status of product in QA department.
  • Establish methods of measurements for prototype parts, perform first article/layout, and work with QA Manager to prepare reports.
  • Monitor company calibration system to ensure calibration of company tools and equipment is being performed.
  • Work with QA Manager to prepare and submit complete First Article Inspection Report (AS9102)
  • Correspond with customer SQEs and FQEs for First Article and source inspection.
  • Keep status on NCs and DMRs and other customer or vendor quality issues.
  • Track escapes from Assembly for final inspections.
  • Participate in Creating an annual budget for quality department needs.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality department tooling, equipment needs and overall organization.
  • Coordinate with employees and approve time off as appropriate while considering workloads.
  • Oversee vendor and customer product returns, rework, or repair.
  • RMAs- verify signoffs and coordinate source inspections or delegate as needed.
  • Edit and Approve Timecards.
  • Perform other quality related functions as needed.
  • Must complete Respirator fit test; minimal to no facial hair is required to complete test and wear required PPE for Fire and Powder testing.
    • Learn and Perform STFS product Fire and Powder Testing process.

Job Requirements:

Education & Training:

  • Associate degree, in Engineering, Quality, or Technical Discipline preferred, or equivalent experience required
  • Quality certifications such as ASQ Certification (CQM, CQE), Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt preferred.

Skills & Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a quality assurance role.
  • Previous Experience as a Quality -Inspector
  • Minimum 3 years experience working with ISO9001/AS9100 system.
  • 3-5 years Experience in electro-mechanical manufacturing industry, with ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics is required.
  • Electronics/wiring assembly and machining industry experience in the aerospace/defense sector is preferred.
  • Familiarity with government regulations, military standards, specifications, and requirements is strongly preferred.
  • Working experience in continuous improvement and total quality management practices such as Lean, TQM, Kaizen, SPC, DOE, etc.
  • Must be familiar with various types of inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and digital height gauge.
  • Must be able to create AS9102 First Article Inspection documentation reports.
  • Familiar with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing a plus
  • Must be able to pass ATF background check.

  • Proactively initiate improvement ideas, participate in meetings, and lead quality related projects.
  • Communicate effectively, make presentations, and write concise reports for all levels of employees.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Must be flexible with schedule to ensure support for STFS including possible 2 nd shift, split shift, and or overtime
  • Travel to customer to assist in performing onsite audits and discuss quality resolutions. Travel not more than 25%.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.
  • Work courteously and tactfully with customers and employees.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Operate computer and office equipment. Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
