Working title: Research Assistant

Research Assistant participates in clinical trials research work within the parameters of study protocols and Federal Regulations. Recruits research subjects, accumulates, records and stores data, works closely with principal investigator and clinical research staff to ensure protocol guidelines are followed. Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary research team.

• Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary research team.

• Assists in the collection of data obtained from research subjects.

• Organizes clinic or study procedures, follows study participants, and maintains records of their visits and interviews.

• Possesses a thorough understanding of the protocol; recruits and enrolls participants, ensuring all the prerequisites are complete and conform to required parameters.

• Explains the study to the participants; assists in obtaining consent to be enrolled in protocol.

• Counsels the participant and family regarding the intent of the study.

• Prepares and presents educational materials for participants and other staff to carry out protocol therapy as needed.

• Administers assigned aspects of the various study components.

• Obtains, processes, and ships human blood and tissue samples as directed.

• Communicates with clinical research team and principal investigator about the status of the research project.

• Responsible for collecting, assembling, and mailing the following to the appropriate agencies or laboratories; charts, billing, specimens, X-rays, and pathology slides.

• Maintains skills and competencies related to special equipment, data entry systems, and procedures common to the research subject population being studied.

• Assists in the preparation of IRB forms, reports, modifications and continuing reviews.

• Serves as a liaison to the UIHC/University Business Office in identifying research tests and procedures.

• Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, patients, and families.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Work hours are normally Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. – however, occasionally, hours after 4:00 p.m. and on weekends will be required.
