Job Description

PopID is the universal gateway for verifying an individual's identity based on their face for applications such as loyalty and payment. Founded in 2018, we are a well funded, fast growing startup based in Pasadena, CA ().

We are a team of solution-driven professionals experienced in the financial, engineering, and software industries, dedicated to creating more positive experiences for ordering, loyalty, and payments.

We are looking for a highly skilled software architect to design and lead the development of a complex integrated system involving biometric authentication, payment tokenization, risk management, and data processing. The ideal candidate should have experience in building robust, scalable, and secure solutions and be adept at working with cloud services, API integrations, and data security protocols. You will be responsible for designing a system architecture that supports a seamless user experience across various touchpoints, including mobile and web platforms. 

Requirements

  • Develop and oversee the architecture of an integrated system involving biometric enrollment and verification, payment processing, data tokenization, and secure communications. Ensure the design supports scalability, security, and performance. 
  • Focuses on the technical design and architecture of individual software applications. This involves creating the structure of software systems, including the choice of frameworks, technologies, and patterns. Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., PCI-DSS, GDPR).
  • Develop seamless integrations between biometric services, payment processors (ACH, tokenization), risk engines, and third-party APIs (e.g., Twilio for notifications). Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and data flow.
  • Prepare detailed architecture diagrams, technical specifications, and documentation. Communicate architectural decisions and technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to architectural standards and best practices.

Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in software architecture and system design.
  • Experience building backend services in one of the following: Java, Scala or Kotlin
  • Strong Experience with service oriented architecture, writing REST API’s, unit testing, and architectural design
  • Strong Experience with Relational/NoSQL databases and Kafka
  • Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Strong background in cloud platforms, particularly AWS (EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS).
  • Ability to communicate to technical teams as well as non-technical resources

Preferred Skills:

  • Full stack application development experience
  • Experience in the fintech/payments industry
  • Understanding of data modeling and database design (SQL/NoSQL).
  • Familiarity with ACH and card payment systems, including tokenization services and risk management engines.

Benefits

The starting base pay range for this position is USD $190K - $225K annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on the candidate's location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, PopID offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, stock options, unlimited PTO, and a fully paid health care benefits package (medical, dental, vision plans).
