Your New Role – Workers’ Compensation Board | Board Member!

The Workers' Compensation Board's mission is to provide timely and impartial resolution of disputes arising under the Workers' Compensation Law and Oregon Safe Employment Act. The Board, through its Hearings Division, handles the adjudication and the provision of alternative dispute resolution (including mediation) for workers' compensation matters as well as for occupational safety and health matters. The five-member Board also serves as the appellate body that reviews workers' compensation orders on appeal and reviews claim disposition agreements. The Board also exercises own-motion jurisdiction and administers Victim of Crimes Compensation Law.

This board appointment consists of a full-time workload and is compensated in accordance with Oregon Revised Statutes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Consistent with

    ORS 656.712(1),

    successful candidates for these positions will be individuals who can demonstrative that they have a background and understanding as to concerns of employers.

Desired Attributes

  • Experience with litigation in Oregon Workers’ Compensation Law, Employment Law, or related field, representing the interests of employers or carriers.
  • Experience with litigating, reviewing or issuing administrative orders.
  • Demonstrated expertise with managing a time-sensitive caseload.
  • Experience working in a team-supported environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience with legal writing and utilizing legal research tools.
  • The ability to use logic and legal analysis, principles, reasons, or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusions.
  • Ability to work with a group to reach consensus.

This also includes most major state agencies and departments headed by policy-making boards which are appointed by the Governor. Members of Oregon State Boards and Commissions are vital participants in statewide decision-making and dedicated individuals have the opportunity to participate in developing a wide variety of important governmental policies. Major issues range from consumer protection, economic development, education, conservation, and health care — all of which are critical to the ongoing success of the State of Oregon.
